"The Golden Goal" Limited Edition Print
My first published artwork! This drawing was inspired by Team Canada's Gold Medal win at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games and in turn it inspired my career! In most sports art, I noticed that artists tended to blur the crowd into the background, making the players the focus of the piece. I wanted to capture the passion that Canadian hockey fans show for our game and the huge role they played in this team's success. My goal was to included as much fine detail as possible, to ensure that no matter how often you view it, you will continue to find something new and intriguing. There are 276 fans in this scene and every one of them is unique and has a detailed expression, both in their face and body language. Every fan is based on a real Team Canada fan. This piece took me over 300 hours to draw. Among the interesting things to look for in the stands are legendary hockey players, Paul Henderson and Yvon Cournoyer, celebrating in Summit Series 1972 game winning goal fashion at the top of the stairs. I see Sidney Crosby's Golden Goal as the Summit Series (Henderson) goal of the modern era, so incorporating Paul Henderson into the piece was a way of showing a "passing of the torch" from one generation of hockey fans to the next.
