"Get Me The Brandy" Limited Edition Print

"Get Me The Brandy" Limited Edition Print

  • 24.99 USD

This piece captures the feeling of being a Penguins fan on game day as fans walk toward both the Igloo (Mellon Arena) on the left and the Consol Energy Center (on the right).  The pencil artist merged the two arenas to capture the complete history of the team. Ghosted in the sky above the arenas are eight of the many great players that have captured the hearts of Pens' fans since their inaugural season in 1967.  From left to right: Syl Apps Jr., Jean Pronovost, Rick Kehoe, Mario "Le Magnifique" Lemieux, Tom Barrasso, Jaromir Jagr, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.  Fan jersey numbers pay tribute to these players as well as many more greats, while also representing all incarnations of jersey design throughout Penguins' history.  A fan wearing Jean Pronovost's #19 jersey carries a hockey bag bearing Michel Briere's #21.  Briere was killed in a car crash following his rookie season and his equipment bag traveled with the team for their entire 1970-71 season to pay tribute.  Briere was the Penguins rookie of the year, their points leader in the playoffs and was expected to develop into a top NHL player.  Team mascot, Iceburgh, welcomes fans on the left while a familiar face to fans in Pittsburgh, Kenny Geidel, sells cotton candy on the right.  Kenny sadly passed away in 2011 at the age of only 64.  The statue of Mario Lemieux stands near center, with all text found on the actual plaque.  The flag in front of The Igloo bears the Penguins first (jersey-worn) logo and colours while the flag in front of the Consol Energy Center bears the current logo and colours. The name of this artwork pays tribute to Mike Lange's famous line spoken on his radio play-by-play broadcast following the Penguins Stanley Cup victories, "Oh Lord Stanley, Lord Stanley, Get Me The Brandy!"
